| Votive
altar dedicated to the god Mercurius Arvernus. The inscription and
image are difficult to discern, though one can see that Mercurius
Arvernus is seated. A cloak draped over his left shoulder and arm falls
over his left leg. He holds a staff with serpents in his left hand, and
probably a purse in his right hand. Behind him, a he-goat lies on the
ground. (National Museum of Antiquities, Leiden) |
