How to make rubbings

The Samian research community team is asked frequently how to make rubbings. Basically, you need

- graphite

- thin cigarette paper. Recent market surveys learned that "Velin quality" is available in 17g/m2 quality. 100 kg paper can be bought for ca. 50 EUR. Thus, the price per rubbing ends in Cent/Penny amounts per rubbing.

You may then scan the rubbing by using standard software like PhotoShop Elements. Some image treatment to cleanup borders might be necessary. PhotoShop settings can be seen here. Please refrain from using too simple photo editing programs or even "automatic contrast filters", since dpi and scale settings are often not manipulable in such software.

A film has been made to demonstrate how to make rubbings. You may see it below or download it here.
