Help - Potter search

 

The Search Mask is organised into 4 sections:

 

Potter

Type in the first two letters of a potter's name. After a short time, a dropdown box will appear, listing all the potters' names which start with these two letters. When you have selected a potters' name, the related pulldown (Die) on the right hand side will contain the dies relevant to that potter.
Alternativly, you can type a part of the potters' name in the textbox below, using standard characters from your keyboard. To clear this field, use the icon
Please note that a substring search "contains" is the default search method. Change this option by clicking the appropriate radiobutton.

Reading

To enter the potters' name exactly as it appears on the stamp using special epigraphic characters in the Epigraphic Samian Font, click on the and all the available characters in the font will appear.
To enlarge the Epigraphic Samian Font display, Press "CTRL + +" in Firefox, or otherwise "View/Text Size / Increase"
Choose characters sequentially to build the potters' name in the reading box.
If you don't see these special characters, follow the font download instructions.

Site You can select a site from the pulldown list.
Form

Form selection is available by 3 routes:

- Select from drawings. When you click on the vessel symbol , a popup will appear with all forms. Select using the radiobutton.
- Simplified forms pulldown. This radiobutton produces a list of forms grouped as basic shapes. E.g. "bowl", "cup".
- Individual forms pulldown. This radiobutton produces a list of forms using standard samian typology.

Output mode Thumbnails output mode produces an image gallery with site occurrences.
Full table list mode gives summary information for the vessels retrieved from the search criteria. The output can be ordered by ticking the appropriate checkbox.
